New and established dog owners who love the countryside experience will find the perfect break at Bowerland Holiday Cottages in Devon. Lauren Langman’s family-run business offers luxury cottage stays with custom dog training plans in the peaceful haven of Okehampton. Her expert dog training team creates these training plans for guests who book three-, four-, or seven-night stays.
Choose From Three Stay and Train Packages
Bowerland Holiday Cottages offers three Stay and Train Packages. Guests have described these packages as “refreshingly different” and “hugely positive, friendly, and supportive” in a “safe, non-judgmental space.”
Bowerland Cottages assigns a personal trainer to all dog owners who book a break. This personal trainer gets in touch ahead of time to arrange a schedule for the Stay and Train Holiday.
The three Stay and Train Packages include:
- Base, a three-night stay in the Annexe or Tor View Studio | £1,140. Guests receive 10 hours of dog training, two months of access to online classes, one online workshop, and a £20 gift voucher.
- Summit, a four-night stay in the Annexe or Tor View Studio | £1,500. Guests receive 15 hours of dog training, three months of access to online classes, two online workshops, and a £30 gift voucher.
- Peak, a seven-night stay in Dartmoor Inn Studio, Parsley Cottage, or Old Dairy Cottage | £2,296. Guests receive 20 hours of dog training, four months of access to online classes, four online workshops, and a £40 gift voucher.
The training hours include one-to-one training, group training, a pre-arrival call, and a post-departure call.
All three packages also include a notepad and pen, access to a Bake Off Workshop, and lifetime access to the Sexier Than a Squirrel Challenge.
The Sexier Than a Squirrel challenge offers fun, short training videos every day for 25 days. The training encourages dogs to stop pulling on their leads, lunging, overreacting, jumping at people, and barking. Dogs can also develop good household manners, improve their listening skills, and learn how to ignore distractions.
The Seven Bowerland Cottages and Studios
Bowerland offers seven cottages and studios to accommodate groups of different sizes. Guests have described the accommodation as “pure magic” and “an oasis of calm.”
1. Tor View Studio
Complete with a gated courtyard and an enclosed garden, Tor View Studio enjoys a private outdoor space amidst the Devon Moors.
Natural light floods the barn studio through large rear doors. Floor-to-ceiling blinds lock out this light for cosy evenings. Underfloor heating adds to the cosy ambience, ideal after a day of training and walking along the moors.
Guests also have access to the enclosed Naughty But Nice Sand Arena for exercising and training their dogs.

The open-plan studio offers underfloor heating, a bath for evening soaks, and a dog-training storage shed. Originally part of the Bowerland Farmhouse, which is more than 800 years old, the Annexe makes for a historic stay. That said, the cottage studio has been outfitted with modern kitchen amenities.
“The Annexe was perfect,” one guest, Louise, says. “It was relaxing and cosy and the perfect place for some social isolation. Bliss!”

Draw the floor-to-ceiling blinds or leave them open to watch the stars while listening for the local barn owls.
Bowerland generates its own light (via solar technology) and water (via the on-site borehole) for this open-plan studio.
Guests can also use the Naughty But Nice Sand Arena to train and exercise their dogs.

A conservatory overlooks the enclosed garden and patio seating area, which is perfect for al fresco dining. There’s also a herb garden to enjoy — Lauren Langman and her team can advise on herb combos to use in meals and drinks.

Recent refurbishments include a wood burner for colder evenings and a shower room to use after muddy walks. There’s also a training room/garage, which is great for training in the rain.

Devon Dogs’ Training Programmes
Aside from owning Bowerland Holiday Cottages, Lauren Langman is also the founder of Devon Dogs. Offering the ultimate in dog training solutions, Devon Dogs hosts several training programmes at the Bowerland site. These span from one-to-one programmes to group programmes and retreats like Naughty But Nice, which is especially popular.
The Naughty But Nice Retreat
Naughty But Nice has transformed the lives of dog owners and their dogs worldwide. Lauren Langman’s game-based training enables owners to help their dogs overcome the challenges that once felt impossible to beat. These challenges may include a dog:
- Resisting car travel.
- Pacing and watching — looking out for what might happen.
- Chasing wildlife, livestock, runners, cyclists, or anything else.
- Barking on the lead or at noises.
- Jumping at strangers.
- Stopping on walks and refusing to continue.
- Growling.
- Lunging.
- Running to other dogs.
Challenges like these can make it stressful to take your dog outside. However, dog owners who feel isolated, worried, and/or unsure what to do next will find the Naughty But Nice Retreat invaluable.
The retreat encourages owners to practise game-based training strategies in various environments. They become confident in understanding their dog’s body language and motivating their dog using appropriate rewards. Owners also practise with Devon Dogs’ confident Stooge Dog Team.
At the end of the programme, owners and their dogs go home with a plan to keep progressing with their training.
“Devon Dogs gave us hope — something we have been extremely short on,” says one guest, Sherena.
Explore Devon
Bowerland Holiday Cottages places guests within easy reach of Devon and Cornwall’s many sights and attractions. Guests explore some of Devon’s most picturesque beaches, moorlands, and national parks between training sessions.
Lauren Langman’s team helps guests settle into their cottage stays with local walk recommendations, including the Granite Way, Meldon Reservoir, and Roadford Lake. They also provide a list of their tried and tested pubs and takeaways.
